Project Overview
Unravel is a an all-in-one app for fiber artists to find and sell patterns, shop for yarn, and socialize with fellow crafters. This project focused on designing two pages for Unravel for both mobile and tablet view.
The Challenge
As my first major project using Figma, designing Unravel involved a firm understanding of components/variants, auto layout, and styles. The hardest part was understanding how these systems connect and keeping my file organized as it grew. It pushed me to build cleaner, more scalable designs and strengthened my foundation in working efficiently with Figma.
The Process
Unravel was designed through four key phases of rapid prototyping:
1. Exploration - Reviewing existing crafting apps and gathering inspiration to understand common patterns in shopping and pattern browsing experiences.
2. Structure - Defining the layout for both mobile and tablet views, focusing on navigation, hierarchy, and placement of key actions.
3. System Building - Creating a reusable component set including headers, tab bars, banners, cards, and color tokens to keep the interface consistent and scalable.
4. Prototyping - Designing two core pages (Home and Shop) across breakpoints, refining interactions, spacing, and visual rhythm.
Reflection
This project strengthened my foundation in components, layout, and responsive design. Working across mobile and tablet taught me how structure and hierarchy need to adapt. As my first major Figma build, it pushed me to stay organized, refine details, and design with more confidence.
